SAPPHIRE GEM TRAP SETS
logo
GEM Traps have a revolutionary venturi orifice design, which enables them to perform the job of a steam trap without the need for moving parts. This means that GEM Traps will not wear out and fail.
10 YEAR PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE
All GEM Steam Traps are guaranteed against wear or loss of performance for a period of 10 years from date of purchase. Like all orifice traps, the GEM Steam Traps used in the GEM Condensate Return System work by using the difference in density between steam and condensate. Condensate is 1,000 times denser than steam and so passes through an orifice very much slower than steam. Steam, without condensate present, will typically pass through an orifice at velocities approaching Mach 1! So slow-moving condensate squeezes out low density steam as it approaches the orifice. The high density, slow moving condensate is then preferentially discharged through the orifice, trapping the low density steam behind it.
Technical data:
WHAT DO STEAM TRAPS DO?
The job of a steam trap is to trap, or hold, steam within the steam system while draining condensate out of it.
It sounds simple, but a steam trap also has to:
• Vent air and non-condensable gases at start-up;
• Discharge large quantities of cold condensate as steam enters the system;
• Discharge much smaller amounts of hot condensate on achieving temperature, and over varying conditions, without passing live steam.
In the past, only mechanical traps have been available to tackle these demands. They have large orifices with various bucket and float valve mechanisms, and they do the job with various degrees of success. But they all have moving parts which, in time, fail.

RUBY GEM TRAP SETS
logo
HOW GEM TRAPS WORK
Steam traps have to work under a full range of variable load conditions
START UP
Unlike mechanical traps with valves and mechanisms, GEM Traps have nothing to impede air venting through at start up. Thus, air vents through the orifice at high velocity, during start up. So GEM do not require separate air venting mechanisms. Cold condensate builds up and jets straight through the discharge throat at two to three times the rate of running load.
RUNNING LOAD
Steam held back and condensate continuously forms and drained away. Condensate is channelled into the orifice and preferentially discharged. The steam is squeezed out and held back by the slow moving condensate.
Hot condensate flows through the orifice moving from high to low pressure conditions. This causes a proportion of the condensate to re-evaporate as ‘flash’ steam within the discharge throat. This flash steam causes a turbulent flow and has two effects. It cleans the throat of the trap and it increases resistance to flow through the orifice. Added to this, the rapidly expanding mixture of condensate and flash steam accelerates down the throat. Just like in a jet engine, and according to Newton’s Law ‘for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction’ this expansion puts a back pressure locally on the orifice.
10 YEAR PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE
All GEM Steam Traps are guaranteed against wear or loss of performance for a period of 10 years from date of purchase.
Technical data:
ADVANTAGES INCREASED PRODUCTION
• No moving parts = No trap failure = minimal downtime
• Faster warm-up = quicker batch times t1 > t2
• No back pressure from failed traps
• Less thermal shock = Increase plant durability
MORE CONTROL & HEAT OUTPUT
• No trap valves opening and closing, altering exchanger output independently of control valve
• Constant, rather than intermittent drainage also gives increased exchanger output from thinner condensate film (t1 >t2) and smaller condensate pipework.

FOR BOLT ON “QUICK FIT” PIPELINE CONNECTORS
Rating: 100 bar (1450 psi) 500°C
Technical data:
Existing Connector:
If a universal pipeline connector is already fitted, installation simply requires the GEM Trap connector to be bolted to the connector. Ensure that the existing connector is installed in an acceptable orientation. A new GEM gasket should always be fitted between the connector and GEM Trap. New Connector:
Pipeline connectors should be installed with the grooved mating surface facing upwards. It is also acceptable to install the connector with the mating face on the side of the pipework in the vertical plane, but not underneath the pipework. Cap:
The Emerald Trap Cap is pre-assembled fully tightened. If leakage occurs when the steam is tuned on, immediately tighten the cap or screws as required until leakage stops. Replacement GEM graphite coated stainless steel cap gaskets should be assembled hand tight plus an additional half turn, or until a seal is formed.
To avoid cap ‘binding’ to body Graphite Anti Seize paste is factory applied to Cap threads. If the Cap is repeatedly removed and refitted small amounts of paste should be reapplied. Anti-Seize paste is available from GEM. Trap Fitting:
The trap body should be bolted onto the mating face of the connector with the external graphite plate gasket sandwiched in between. The bolts should be hand tight plus an additional half turn, or until a seal is formed.

OPTISWIRL 4070C
logo
KROHNE’s OPTISWIRL is the only vortex flowmeter with integrated pressure and temperature compensation. OPTISWIRL 4070C reliably measures operating, normal volumetric and mass flow of conductive and non-conductive liquids, gases and vapors even in the case of fluctuating pressures and temperatures. OPTISWIRL features the ISP (Intelligent Signal Processing) technology developed by KROHNE. This intelligent signal analysis ensures an exact interpretation of measured values from which external perturbations have been eliminated. Intelligent Signal Processing (ISP) ISP works on the basis of a filter that allows the user to track the actual signal only. The filter system first analyzes the measurement signal and then finds the vortex signal in the entire spectrum. OPTISWIRL filters out all other frequencies. This means that the user obtains a precise and stable measurement he can rely on.
OPTISWIRL is robust, reliable and maintenance-free. Thanks to its non-wearing stainless steel design there is no risk of deposits or damage to the bluff body. In addition, the design is resistant to pressure, temperature and corrosion. With its plug and play feature, the vortex meter is ready for immediate operation by the user, helped by a simple operating concept with an intuitive human machine interface. The customary KROHNE modular concept means that the electronics can be easily replaced; PACTware comes as standard at no extra cost.
Technical data:
The main areas of application for OPTISWIRL are the chemical, metal, oil and gas, paper and water sectors.
However, users can also rely on OPTISWIRL for SIP and CIP processes in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. Typical applications are also steam boiler monitoring, control of compressor output or consumption measurement of burners and in compressed air systems.

OPTISONIC 6300
logo
KROHNE has introduced the OPTISONIC 6300 clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter. The instrument has been designed to be easy to install and deliver high reliability, particularly in heavy industrial and hazardous applications. The flowmeter, which replaces the UFM 600T, offers improved measurement accuracy, ATEX approval, an extended temperature range as well as being capable of handling smaller line sizes. To aid installation and improve operation the OPTISONIC 6300 has numerous features. The instrument is fitted with an integrated display, which shows signal quality in real-time during the calibration of the signal transducer. This allows engineers to optimise the performance of the flowmeter by maximising measurement quality by up to 100 per cent. Easy handling The OPTISONIC can be installed quickly and without special tools. The flowmeter has a robust clamp-on mechanism, which has been designed specifically to aid installation in industrial applications. The instrument is also fitted with a protective casing which protects it against, for example, dust, aggressive vapours, solar radiation or mechanical damage. This helps ensure reliable operation in the most demanding and hazardous of conditions. The protective casing also helps to reduce maintenance. It is designed to protect the grease which couples the signal transducer to the tube wall, making it effective for longer and therefore increasing the time needed between maintenance periods. It also helps make re-lubrication easy. Great economy
Technical data:
The OPTISONIC flowmeter is particularly suited for use in applications where processes should not be interrupted, pressure loss avoided and maintenance minimized.
The flowmeter is available with three sensor types, which cover the entire pipe diameter range of DN15 to DN4000. In addition two other sensors are available for extreme temperature applications, from -50 to +200°C. Greater flexibility can be achieved by combining a maximum of two sensors with one converter.

Samiflex Elastomeric Couplings
logo

Now there's a new solution to one of the most costly and troublesome problems facing maintenance personnel - coupling failure and the expensive down time associated with fixing it.
Only four parts to the Samiflex Coupling The two identical hubs (items A & B) are manufactured in cast iron, cast steel or aluminium alloy and incorporate four, six or eight teeth, depending on size rating of the coupling. A precision cast and machined polyurethane insert (item C) fits between the hubs and is split axially so fitting and removal can be achieved without moving hubs. The holding ring, manufactured in steel, polyamide or bronze (item D) is fitted over the insert securing both insert and ring between hubs. The coupling requires no bolts or nuts.
The range of Samiflex Couplings has been approved under ATEX directive 94/9/EC - for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Technical data:
Features and Benefits
• Coupling insert removable without the need to remove either driving or driven equipment.
• Change out of coupling insert is faster than any other coupling.
• No lubrication or maintenance required over the life of the insert.
• The polyurethane insert can be supplied in a variety of hardnesses to optimise torque capacity and damping.
• Polyurethane insert is very resistant to chemical attack.
